MISAKO & ROSEN and Tomio Koyama gallery are pleased to announce our jointly presented exhibition by Sao Paulo based artist Paulo Monteiro. Titled, “The outside of distance”, each exhibition will feature work in a variety of media; painting, works on paper and sculptures presented in distinct installations which consider the relationship between Monteiro’s work and the particular nature of the differing gallery exhibition spaces. Including drawings on paper from 1990 through paintings on canvas from 2017, “The outside of distance” will offer the Japanese audience an introduction to and overview of the present practice of a highly important Brazilian artist.

Paulo Monteiro was born (1961) and presently lives and works in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A selection of Monteiro’s significant solo and group exhibitions includes : “Casa 7”, Pivo, Sao Paulo (2015), “Paintings on Paper”, David Zwirner, New York (2014), Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil (2008) and the 22nd and 18th Sao Paulo Biennial (1994/1985).
